The Young People’s Mental Health team is responsible for providing community mental healthcare to service users who require more specialist treatment than is available through the Under 18’s Wellbeing Team, Suffolk CFYPS or Suffolk Wellbeing Service.
Age of service:Service users between 14 and up to 25 years of age.
The conditions we treat:
We treat young people with severe depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), personality disorders, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, and bipolar affective disorder.
In treating mental health in young people, diagnosis is not always as clear as for adults. It is important to focus on how young people are functioning and the impact on their mental health.
What to expect from us:
When you come to us, you can expect to be informed clearly who is your care co-ordinator or lead professional, how to contact them routinely and arrangements for emergency contact – which is likely to be through another team out of office hours. The evidence based interventions with the young person could be via face to face contact, via telephone or group work.
How we support carers, including friends and family:
For young people we would expect to include family members in all stages of care and treatment. We encourage continued involvement those aged over 18, in line with young people’s development and different legal expectations for adult service users.
